How Do Remote Signal Boosters Work?

This is a question we get a lot. It involves a three-step process, so we like to break it down and simplify things. First, an outside antenna grabs the signal from the nearest cellular tower. The antenna is part of the package and goes up outside the home, usually on the roof or in an elevated point free from obstructions.

 

Second, once the antenna has the phone signal, it sends that signal to an amplifier located somewhere inside the home. It can be on the wall or hidden away in a closet—it depends on where you want it. The amplifier takes the weak signal, boosts it, and makes it stronger.

 

Third, the signal is sent to an inside antenna. After the amplifier boosts the cell signal, it shoots it over the second, indoor antenna. This rebroadcasts the stronger cell signal within the home and to your cellular devices.
