How Often Should You Replace a Cell Phone Booster

How Often Should You Replace a Cell Phone Booster

Sometimes it seems like technology moves too quickly. We get new devices with exciting new features every year, and it can be challenging to keep track of them. Fortunately, you can get a lot of mileage from the signal booster you use around the home or office. If you’re wondering how often you should replace a cell phone booster, SureCall is here for you.

Typical Time Frame

One of the things to consider when replacing your signal booster is time. Signal boosters are generally good for between five and seven years, so it's unlikely that the passage of time is what leads you to replace your current unit.

Buying a new booster doesn’t always mean that you need to replace the antennas. However, if your indoor unit is over seven years old, your outdoor antenna may be overdue for a replacement.

Consider New Features

When looking at how often you should replace a cell phone booster, it helps to determine what features your booster can access. If you have an older model, it may not be compatible with modern LTE or 5G connections. Many boosters, even those from before much of the 5G rollout, are compatible with contemporary network connections. If you're unsure, check the specs for your current booster model and see if there are any features you're missing out on due to an older device.

Loss of Function

Sometimes the most obvious answer is one we're most likely to overlook. You should replace your signal booster if it's not working as well as it should. Typically, if your booster’s light is on, it’s functioning. However, you can do a more in-depth test. Check your bars or go into your phone’s field test mode with the booster on. Then try it again after unplugging your device. If there’s no noticeable change in your signal with the booster unplugged, you may need to get a new one.
